GASTRONOMICAL PRODUCTS TYPICAL AND SPECIALITIES OF LLEIDA

The gastronomy of Lleida is a tribute tothe good practices of the Mediterranean region. Since time inmemorial, the inhabitants of these lands, who included the Romans, have cultivated the art of producins good quality food. Casseroled, grilled ans dtewed snails, girella, the veal of the Pyreneesthe cheese and butter of Cadíthe D.O, wines of Costers del Segrecoques de recapte, cassoles de tros, the extra-virgin olive oils of Les Garrigues, the fruit of the Lleida Plain and traditions associated with animals and meat products… there ara so many dishes and food-related specialities and traditions just waiting to be discovered. Here, we offer visitors an insight into the gastronomic delights of Lleida. This is an open invitation to taste and enjoy the products of western Catalonia, which have gradually evolved and developed with the passing of time: the Pyrenees and the Lands of Lleida.

  • L’Alt Urgell
    • Natural products: truffles, chicory and mushrooms.
    • Processed products: boiled tongue, honey, DOP cow, sheep and goat cheeses, cured meats and DOP butter.

  • L’Alta Ribagorça 
    • Natural productswild mushrooms, Penny bun mushrooms, St. George’s agaric mushrooms, strawberries and bilberries.
    • Processed products: girella (cured, minced lamb sausage), escudella ribagorçana, lamb palpís, wild boar and Pyrenean chamois stew, cabbage and potato with bacon dripping, freginat (made with lamb’s blood and liver), sheep cheese, xolis and oyher traditionally made cured pork sausages, mostillo (a typical sweet dish made from honey, flour and almonds) and jams made from wild fruits.

  • La Cerdanya 
    • Natural products: Talltendre parsnips, mushrooms, Penny bun mushrooms, La Cerdanya honey and potatoes.
    • Processed products: pa de fetge, els Cerdans (dry hazelnut biscuits and anis) and jams made from woodland fruits.

  • Les Garrigues
    • Natural productsolive oil and almonds.
    • Processed products: pa de fetge, ametlles garrapinyades, orelletes and wine.

  • La Noguera 
    • Natural products: potatoes, honey, almonds and fruit.
    • Processed productscoca de recapte, panadons (filled with spinach, pine nuts and raisins), traditionally made cottage cheese, cheese, almond nougat, ametlles garrapinyades, wine and olive oil.

  • El Pallars Jussà 
    • Natural productshoney, mushrooms, wild mushrooms, river trout, traditional cheeses and nuts.
    • Processed products: girella, palpís, Pyrenean chamois stew, varied escudilla, wild boar stew, xolís, secallona, botifarra traïdora, lettuce coca, quince aioli, mostillo or brossat, fruit preserve, ratafia and nut wine.

  • El Pallars Sobirà 
    • Natural products: chicory, Penny bun mushrooms and truffles and meats such as foal, xisqueta sheep and veal.
    • Processed products: girella, goat cheese, lamb palpís, sheep and cow yoghurt, shepherd’s soup, kidney bean soup and Carnival stuffing.

  • El Pla d’Urgell
    • Natural products: apple, pear and nuts.
    • Processed products: tary-grilled snails, cassola de tros, coques de recapte, orelletes, jueces, conserves and natural and ecological jams, vinegars, honey, ratafia, and fresh goat and sheep cheese.

  • La Segarra 
    • Natural products: Honey, almonds ans potatoes.
    • Processed products: nut ratafia from La Segarra, “Aromes de La Segarra” (maceration of thyme, mint camomile, etc.), La Segarra stew, sardine and fig salad, partridges in vinaigrette sauce, rabbit in chocolate, sweet and savoury coques, cheeses, jams, typical cakes (savines, nevats, plomes d’àngel) pa de pessic, meat products (cured sausages, etc…)

  • El Segrià 
    • Natural products: olive oil, sweet fruit (pears, apples, peaches, plums, nectarines, etc.), almonds, grapes, olives and pistachios.
    • Processed products: grilled snails, dishes made with small game, hot pot, magdalenes, Granados (almond sweets), pumpkin panadons and wine.

  • El Solsonès 
    • Natural products: mountain potatoes from Cambrils and Odèn, truffles and mushrooms.
    • Processed products: sausage, cured sausage, Donegal blanc i negre, cottage cheese, fresh cheese, mushroom and truffle preserves.

  • L’Urgell
    • Natural products: sweet fruit (apples, pears, peaches, cherries, etc.).
    • Processed products: panadons (filled with spinach, pine nuts and raisins), cassola de tros of L'Urgell (made with pigs’ trotters, snails, sausage and spinach, etc.), cóc (a variety of coca de recapte), albades (traditional cakes from Tàrrega), almond nougat and chocolate.

  • La Val d’Aran
    • Natural products: nuts, woodland fruits, mushrooms (saffron milk cap, Penny bun and wild mushrooms) and sturgeon.
    • Processed products: pâtés, cured game, bolh (tongue sausage), anditos (a type of cured white sausage from Baish Aran), cueta (cured white sausage from Miei and Naut Aran), cassís (nut liqueur), honey, jams and caviar.
