  • Calderada de Sant Antoni. Held in La Seu d'Urgell on 17th January. The coutry folk of La Seu d’Urgell cook and share out 5,000 portions of escudella.
  • Dijous gras. Held in Castellciutat on the last Thursday of Lent.
  • Ranxo de Carnaval. The villages of Coll de Nargó, Oliana, Organyà and Peramola celebrate Tuesday of Carnival with a hearty meal, rich in cereals, before fasting during Lent.

  • Making and tasting of girella (part of the Fira de la Girella). Held at El Pont de Suert in October.
  • Festa del Cep a Vilaller. Mushroom festival held on the nearest Sunday to 2nd November.

  • Concurs de Cassoles de Tros. Competition to make cassoles de tros, held at Juneda on Whit Sunday. The ingredients of a typical cassola de tros include extra-virgin olive oil, pork, spinach, snails and potatoes.
  • Festa de l’Oli i de les Orelletes. Olive oil and orelleta festival, held at La Pobla de Cérvoles in January.
  • Festa de l’Oli. Olive oil festival held in L’Albi in March, in Juncosa in November, and in Castelldans in December
  • Calçotada. Scallion (a type of onion) eating festival held at Els Torms on the first Sunday in April.
  • Concurs de Paelles d’Arròs. Paella making contest held at Les Borges Blanques in June.
  • Diada Nacional i Concurs de Paelles. National Day of Catalonia and paella making contest held at L'Espluga Calba in September.
  • Festa de l’Oli Nou. Festival to celebrate the latest production of olive oil held at Castelldans in December.

  • Festa del Ranxo. Communal meal held on the Tuesday of Carnival in Ponts and including over 5,000 servings of escudella.
  • Mostra Nacional de Coques de Recapte and Samfaina. Exhibition of coques de recapte and samfaina held as part of the Fira de Balaguer between April and May.
  • Festa de la Coca. Popular festival held at Balaguer in May and featuring a communal samfaina coca.

  • Aplec del Caragol. Snailfest at which groups of snail lovers meet to eat their favourite dishes. Held at Lleida in May. Declared a Festival of National Interest.
    • Festa de la Catxipanda. Held at Alpicat in September. Catxipanda is a dish made with rabbit,
    sausage, snails, pepper, egg plant, tomato and onion.

L'Urgell


  • Festa de l’Oli a Belianes. Olive oil festival of Belianes. Held in December, coinciding with the first pressing of the season.
  • Festa de Vi i la Verema a Verdú. Traditional wine and grape-picking festival held at Verdú in October to celebrate the grape harvest and with events associated with viticulture.
  • Paellada popular d’Agramunt. Held on 24 th June. Traditional communal paella party, with years of tradition.
