Palaeontology-Dinosaurs LLEIDA, THE LAND OF THE DINOSAURS!

We invite you to discover an area that was inhabited by the last of the dinosaurs, which lived in what are now the territories of modern-day Catalonia (Spain). It is here that palaeontologists discover and study important sites with the fossilised remains of creatures that disappeared at the end of the Upper Cretaceous, 65 million years ago.

Visiting the sites of the LAND OF THE DINOSAURS, the museums, exhibitions and centres of interpretation, you will discover that the geographical area now occupied by the Pyrenean mountain chain was once a marine basin connected to what is now the Bay of Biscay. The main landscapes bordering on this area were coastal mudflats and swampy plains with magnificent vegetation. It was in that physical space that geologists call Garumnià that the last of the dinosaur species lived. Although that was a very different landscape from the one we see today, we can still see remains of the footmarks, eggs and bones of the creatures that once walked through these territories.
