L’Alta Ribagorça The comarca (local district) of L’Alta Ribagorça (Spain) thas a surface area of 426.77 km2 and a population of 3,543, distributed in three municipal areas: el Pont de Suert (2.048 inhabitants), La Vall de Boí (885 inhabitants) and Vilaller (610 inhabitants). L’Alta Ribagorça (Spain) is classified as a mountain comarca on account of its abrupt relief and beautiful lake areas. It is an ideal territory in which to enjoy all sorts of mountain sports in both summer and winter. The comarca is eminently touristic and the majority of local businesses are related to this sector, although livestock farming is also a significant economic activity.

Since 30th November 2000, L’Alta Ribagorça (Spain) has had the added attraction of having the nine Romanesque style churches of the Vall de Boí declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. les nou esglésies romàniques de la Vall de Boí. This group of historic-artistic monuments, which is spread amongst seven different settlements in the valley, is an ensemble of incalculable heritage value. The comarca also boasts a spa centre with a total surface area of 24 hectares. The spa is located at an altitude of 15,000 metres, has a total of 37 mineral-medicinal springs, and offers a range of services that include a 4 star hotel, a hostel and a complex offering thermal treatments with natural hot spring waters.

It is possible to ski at the Boí Taüll ski resort, which offers a total skiable area of 550 hectares, while at 2750 metres, Puig Falcó,is the highest skiable peak in the Pyrenees. There are opportunities to enjoy Alpine skiing, mountain skiing, motor skiing, snowboarding, paraglide skiing and Nordic skiing. The Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park extends across the comarques of El Pallars Sobirà (Spain) and L’Alta Ribagorça (Spain). It has a total surface area of 40,852 hectares, 14,119 of which correspond to the main area of the park. The western part of the park can be accessed from the Vall de Boí. Pirineus
