  • Make sure that you are in good physical condition. Be aware of your own limits and use your common sense.
  • Walk with experienced colleagues who have a similar level of technical knowledge and physical condition.
  • Take the correct equipment with you (appropriate clothing and comfortable footwear; light clothes and waterproofs)
  • Make sure that you have sufficient information about the area, including possible accommodation and telephone numbers for the emergency services etc.
  • Leave details of your planned route with a friend or member of your family.
  • Check the weather forecast.
  • Carefully check all of the possibilities for accommodation so that you can find somewhere to stay if necessary.
  • It is advisable to carry a full water bottle and to regularly refill it at public fountains, because the weather can be very hot in summer.
  • If you get lost, the best advice is to go back to the previous signpost.
