Cultura Lleida Antiga Cultura Ibera

The Iber Route (Ruta dels Ibers) is a cultural tourism project that is coordinated by the Museu d’Arqueologia de Catalunya (Archaeological Museum of Catalonia). The objective is to promote and facilitate information about the main sites associated with the Iber culture in Catalonia (Spain) and also about the people who inhabited them.

The Iber Route invites you to follow the footprints left behind by one of the most important cultures to have lived on the Iberian Peninsula. Visitors are invited to discover an archaeological heritage that includes both the monumental and the spectacular: fortified citadels, walled villages, cities that existed more than 2,500 years ago. At present, the Route consists of 16 Iber museum sites that have been organised around 7 different itineraries, each identified with the name by which the writers of classical times knew the tribes of the north-east of the peninsula:

  • The land of the Indigets, in the modern day comarques (local districts) of Girona, which includes the historic sites of Ullastret (Ullastret, Baix Empordà), Castell (Palamós, Baix Empordà) and Puig Castellet (Lloret de Mar, La Selva).
  • The land of the Ilercavons, in the comarques of Tarragona, including historic remains at El Castellet de Banyoles (Tivissa, Ribera d’Ebre), Sant Miquel (Vinebre, Ribera d’Ebre) and La Moleta del Remei (Alcanar, Montsià).
  • The land of the Cessetans, in the comarques of El Penedès, which includes the Iber settlements of Olèrdola (Olèrdola, Alt Penedès) and La Ciutadella (Calafell, Baix Penedès).
