Every year, between March and April, the city of Lleida (el Segrià - Spain) plays host to the Mostra de Cinema Llatinoamericà de Lleida (Latin-American Cinema Festival of Lleida), an international festival that offers a high level of cinema including some of the best and most recent Latin-American productions.

The event includes about a hundred films from a dozen different countries and also serves a framework for a wide range of parallel activities including photographic exhibitions, music concerts, cultural meetings and the presentation of books.The festival is organised in a number of different sections (the Official Festival, Short Films, Documentaries, Special Tributes, Invited Countries, Cult Areas, etc), and devotes a special area to works produced by the youngest film producers within the Secció d’Escoles de Cinema (Cinema Schools Section).On the other hand, every year the competition awards prizes for the Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best First Work, Best Script, Best Documentary and Best Short Film. As well as these prizes, there is also the Prize Awarded by the Public and the TVE Prize, with a value of over 60,000€.

The projection of the films and celebration of other activities are accompanied by the presence of invited guests from the worlds of cinema and culture in general.The first edition of the Lleida festival was celebrated in 1995 and the 12 editions held to date have shown more than 800 films from almost all of the countries in Latin America. The three main objectives of the Mostra are to make our society more aware of what is happening in Latin American cinema, to bring to public attention works that do not generally reach the commercial circuits and to help to project the city of Lleida at both the national and international levels. The event is organised by the Ajuntament de Lleida (Lleida City Council) and the Centre Llatinoamericà de Lleida (Lleida Latin American Centre).
