The Centre de Titelles de Lleida (Lleida Puppet Centre - El Segrià - Spain) was established in 1986 by Joan-Andreu Vallvé and Julieta Agustí. The original aim was to promote and diffuse the art of puppetry through its three different functions and by operating as a Drama Centre, Pedagogic Centre and as a Centre of Documentation.
Along with its main activity, since 1990, the Centre has organised the annual Fira de Teatre de Titelles de Lleida (Lleida Puppet Theatre Festival). This event, which is held on the first weekend in May, has now become a well-consolidated market for the purchase, sale and programming of the most relevant puppet shows at a national level. This has made the festival an annual meeting point for a large number of puppeteers, playwrights and directors, who take advantage of this event to exchange ideas, discuss problems related with theatre for children and treat the specific subject of theatre props. Since 1998, the Centre de Titelles de Lleida has also organised the Fira del Llibre de les Arts Escèniques (Free Festival of the Theatrical Arts) to coincide with the festival. The aim of this other event is to make both professionals and the general public aware of publications relating to al aspects of the theatrical arts. 1995 also saw the creation of the Associació d'Espectadors del Centre de Titelles (Association of Puppet Centre Spectators).
The Centre de Titelles de Lleida receives support from the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Diputació de Lleida, the Ajuntament de Lleida and the Ministeri de Cultura.
